Run #31 - Recovery 5 miles (should have been Quality 7 miles)

Good evening all. Like the title says, today was supposed to be a "Quality" 7 mile run today. I have been running Yasso 800's for this training day and had every intention of running 8 splits today. Since it was cold (16 degrees) and I was taking Michaela to the orthodontist, I went to the YMCA a little later than usual. I started my run like any other, but noticed that I had some pain in my legs. When I ran the first 800 (1/2 mile) split, my body revolted. I did make the split in under my target time, but after the 1/4 mile jog, I had to make a quick detour to the restroom. After that, I decided to head back to the track and only run another 3 1/2 miles and try to maintain my marathon pace, which I did.

My plan at this point is to restructure my training plan for the next 2 weeks. I am still going to try to get all of my miles in, but not focus on speed or hard splits, but rather just running the miles at a steady pace. For this week I am going to stay toward the lower mile requirements. To date I have pushed to upper mileage limits, or exceeded what was required. Given how my body responded this morning, I am going to give it a rest. I guess that the climb was harder on my body than I thought.

Tomorrow is an easy 4 miles and my volleyball league, so we will see how my body responds to that --- ibuprofen is a wonderful thing.

Thanx to all of you who are following this blog, or even just checking in once and a while. If I did not blog, I would probably come up with all kinds of excuses why not to run, but forcing myself to be vigilant about writing about the runs has held me accountable, even when I make changes in my regime.

Peace,

  1. You're doing it!! Might I suggest alternating Motrin with Tylenol? Motrin can tear a stomach up, lessening that may help. Just a thought. I'm rooting for you!!
